Art Piece - Serious Silence

1) Describe

In this piece, there is a girl whose face is zoomed in, only the eyes are visible and a portion of her eyebrows. She is tan and looks very pretty. Her eyes are dark brown with a hint of brown at the bottom of the eye. In my opinion, she looks like she follows Islam due to the black cloth around her cheek.

2) Analyze

The artist, (I used) elements like line, shape, space, texture, and value, but I still need to work on them a little bit more to create principles like balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity/variety. If all of the work goes fine, it can look more 3 dimensional.

3) Interpret

The meaning/message behind this art piece is to convey the author that the character in the piece looks very serious, bold and a little happy at the same time. In my art work, I want to convey all these feelings.

4) Judge

I think that this piece is unsuccessful due to many reasons. One of the reasons are that I dint have many shading techniques in the art work and it is still incomplete. I'm trying to get myself higher than a 90. I can do that by adding more shading and making highlights.

My inspiration for this piece is the figure and the textures of the face. My first thought while I chose this piece wad that this is a very easy portrait to do because there isn’t a mouth to draw, ear to draw and teeth to draw. That made my work easy. But as I started to graph out the picture, I saw that there are many more things that I didn’t notice. I saw that there is shading to do, there is a rhythm between the dark values and light values, and the most important thing was the eyes had to be in s way that looks like the light/glow of the picture is coming from a certain direction.

The process that I used were very unique and special for me because I have never drawn a portrait and never heard about these terms. The first thing that I did was I first mapped out the picture and had to make the eyes, eyebrows and the nose box by box. After I did that, I had to now slowly shade across and near the nose, and I shaded the eyebrows in. I had to use the eraser a lot because it was my first time. But I slowly realized that there were small pieces of paper that were coming out. I had to tape a piece back together because the paper ripped of near the middle and end of the sheet. I then started to use a cotton ball to soften out the shading that I did near the nose to smoothen it out and started to erase some of the shading to make it look natural. I finally used my finger and the rolled up paper to make final corrections.

Describe

In this piece, I as the artist drew a figure who is sitting in the middle of two ponds, with light green Lilli pads. The figure is sitting underneath a clam peaceful tree and as the background, I drew a temple which is based in a small village in Gujarat named Sarangpur, in India. The picture and the figure symbolize Hinduism…… which is the oldest tradition and religion in history of mankind which was practiced 200,000 years BCE.

Analyze

I used textures like wet on dry, values, form, midground, foreground and background to create principles like lines, to create and balance the picture with principles like unity, rhythm, pattern and movement.

Interpret

Each piece has their own meaning behind it, and that is based off the artists way of drawing or his imagination skills. The message behind this piece is calmness and peace. For millenniums, sages in India have practiced the art of yoga for peace and harmony around the world, and just like that, my message is simple, it’s to spread the word of peace.

Judge

I think this piece is successful because I tried to use criteria’s like foreground, midground and background, range of values, degree of details/complexity, etc.

                           H.D.H Pramukh Swami Maharaj

My inspiration for this piece was my guru (spiritual headmaster) H.D.H Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The figure which is sitting underneath the tree is a dedicated to a real person, who live for others and helped the society become great. His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921-2016) changed not just my life, but millions of others too. Throughout his entire life, Pramukh Swami Maharaj has untiringly remained in the service of society. In times of adversity he has assisted society, and in times of peace he has strengthened society. His every moment is lived for others, without distinctions of caste, nationality or faith. Distinguished world leaders and dignitaries have praised his outstanding contributions. He hasn’t helped people just by making them spiritual, but also helping families from falling apart by addictions such as tobacco, smoking, drinking alcohol, etc.

The process that I used to make the piece was wet on dry, values, form, midground, foreground and background to create principles like lines, to create and balance the picture with principles like unity, rhythm, pattern and movement. The piece shows symbolism. The tree in the picture shows a shade over darkness or evilness, the person meditating shows peace, and he is praying for the world, the temple campus behind shows peace and religion is a hope for people, people can seek help from religion and most importantly, the Lili pads show calmness, as the water moves, the Lili pads move with it, so it shows that a person should go with the flow, to be successful or if you don’t want to go through injustice by the world.

      The Hollow Bridge

In this piece, I as the artist tried to create a foreshortening sketch that includes a bridge with a city behind it filled with large skyscrapers and tall buildings.Their is water beneath the bridge and there is only one car in the sketch. To create this piece, I used tools like a ruler to map my drawing out and an eraser.

The meaning behind this piece indicates how there is always competition in the world and people forget that there's a human inside the car, but instead people see only the car. Sometimes people also want to be first or think they should have everything, but in a highway, there is always some one in front of you. Just like that, there are many people ahead in life and aren't always successful, while others that aren't ahead are successful.

I think my piece is successful and cm out the way that I wanted it to come out like because one of the biggest factors that I was looking forward to was making my piece stand out in front of others and give them the idea of what I'm trying to convey. I think, this piece is one of my successful pieces with a deep meaning behind it and I would love to create more. This sketch took me over three days and four tries to get the correct outcome that I was trying to get.

Dynasty of Dialysis

Describe- In this piece that I have created, I as the artist has created a piece in which one can see a triangle, circle and a rectangle. You can also see dark colors in the background like maroon, back, brown, blue, purple and the sky as aqua. The triangle is filled with the color aqua, the circle with purple and the rectangle is filled with yellow.

Create- I created his piece by using water color paint. I used tools such as a ruler and compass to map out the drawing, and paintbrush and my fingers to balance out the paint. I used several techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry and overlapping with paint. I used elements and principles like color, line, shape, space, unity, rhythm, movement and space to make my piece more successful.

Big idea- My piece, the Dynast of Dialysis tries to indicate a very major issue throughout the world today. In this piece, the triangle represent a father, and the shape itself represents creativity, harmony, proportion, subjectivity, culmination, manifestation, boldness and sensitivity. These are the qualities of a father. The circle represents a mother, in the form of a circle. Womb, focus, unity, infinity, nurturing, etc. are the qualities of a mother. The picture is symbolizing a teenage kid moving away, separating from his parents due to peer pressure. The parents are still behind his back supporting him.

Goals- My goals for this piece was to get the audience to know or at least have a small idea about what this piece is and try to convey the message the meaning behind it. One of my other goals was trying to make this piece successful. In my opinion, I think it I successful, but having the colors blend together would have made the picture better.

Thoughts- Through this art piece, I learnt many skills. Some of them were that having and adding layer (wet on dry) makes the piece look better. The quality of the art piece looks better when adding more textures and elements.

  मयूर द्वार (Peacock Gate)

Describe – In his  pee, I as the artist made a peacock with many light and beautiful colors as the background such as white, pink, blue, peach, purple and green. You could detect that the piece is in the middle of the paper, surrounding peacock feathers. In this piece, elements such as pattern, balance and rhythm could be found. You can also see elements like line, color, shape, value and space which makes my picture successful.

Create – I created this piece by the help of color pastels and a method of oil pastel known as sgrafitto. Sgrafitto is a technique either of wall decor, produced by applying layers of plaster tinted in contrasting colors to a moistened surface, or in pottery, by applying to an unfired ceramic body two successive layers of contrasting slip or glaze, an also is use for oil painting.

Big Idea – I was inspired to create this piece by the subject itself, a peacock. I love the way how they have many different colors attached to them, and sometimes exaggerating it could also make it look beautiful. This piece indicates different colors of a person. Everyone has beautiful colors, but sometimes they are scared to show them off. The peacock and the jovial colors indicates happiness.

Goals – My goal as an artist was that I use symbolism as an objective to bring out the meaning behind this piece. I think I reached this goal because this piece was accepted by the class and I think it was successful, in my opinion. I can positively say this because the art piece came out as I was expecting it to be like, and I also made a few changes and revised the piece so that it looks even better.

Thoughts – I learned one important thing, oil pastels look better with many layers in top of each other. I think I was able to reach this goal because this piece was accepted by the class and I think it was successful, and it also came out better than how I expected it to be like. My main goal was to express the main idea that everyone is capable of doing things that they are scared of or something that they would like to achieve This piece will definitely be an inspiration and an influence to me and my future works.

Describe

In this clay piece, there is a Polynesian goddess named Lono. She has a lot of designs on her face, a big mouth, some rocks and flowers attached to her body and two babies on her sides.

Analyze

I used techniques such as slip and score, wedge, pinch, coil, slab etc. to create my piece. My clay work went through three different stages like slip, plastic, and leather hard.

Interpret

The meaning behind this piece is fertility, the deity Lono relates to the message of fertility, agriculture, rainfall, music and peace. In one of the many Hawaiians and Polynesian stories of Lono, she is a fertility and music god who descended to Earth on a rainbow to marry Laka: a Polynesian hero.

Judge

I think that my piece is successful because of many different reasons. One of the main reasons why I think my piece is successful because I was scared many pieces would fall off, but luckily, they did not fall apart or rip off during when I was making the tiki.

                                                                               Lono

My inspiration for this piece was the goddess of fertility named Lono. I chose this goddess because I wanted to create something hard and challenging, and I found out that this piece needs a lot of flowers and leaves and many more details.

The process that I used to make this piece were techniques such as slip and score, wedge, pinch, coil, slab etc. to make the clay look 3D. My clay work went through three different stages like slip, plastic, and leather hard.

  The Seldom Silence

This piece is dedicated to the seldom (rare) silence that the environment shows to mankind. There are only a few artist that drew these types of paintings to describe and symbolize nature like Sir Van Gogh’s painting “Irises”, that was made in 1889 by oil pastels, Henri Reseau’s famous painting “ A tiger in a tropical storm”, which was made in 1891, Georgia O’Keefe’s painting “ waterfall number 1” or also known as “Iao valley maui” which was created in 1939, by oil pastels and much more. These artists were my inspiration for my piece. I was planning on making a small hill and a few cubes that represent industrialization, but then I messed and created this piece with a better meaning behind it including the two strategies of painting, cubism and symbolism.

 I SCREAM

My inspiration for this piece is the weather. Due to the hot weather, mostly everyone eats ice cream bars and people have their favorite ones too. Someone like mango, chocolate, vanilla, pecan, butter scotch, nutty - buttie, etc. I drew one of my favorite bars, a chocolate bar with tropical nuts on top.

The process I used for this piece was sort of tricky for me. I used elements such as shape, value and line quality with lines to make principles like rhythm, unity and balance my art work.
